COLOGNE NEW PHILHARMONIC
Conductor: Volker Hartung
Symphonic Project February 2006
A Tour Report
I. Preparation:
The Rehearsals
Six three-hour rehearsals were set up at Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne,
Germany.
The greatest difficulties were certainly encountered in the Serenade for Strings
by Tchaikovski, as well as the passages for wind players in the
»Music for the Royal Fireworks« by Georg Frederic Handel.
The most satisfying result was presented at the »Laeisz-Halle«
in Hamburg at the beginning of the European tour.
The Concert in Hamburg took place on Sunday, February 5, 2006 and it was a
great success.
Marina Sarkissova , violinist from Nürnberg
The orchestra includes music students from all parts of Germany which are coming together for a three week period to work together with Volker Hartung
Each player comes with the intention to learn and to make music on a very high level. He receives 41 Euros for a three-hour rehearsal with an intermission of 20 Minutes...
Mozart's Concerto for Flûte, Harpe and Orchestra is a uniquely interesting
musical experience for all participating artists

Johanna Reithmeier from Landshut in Bavaria impresses with her sensitive and
extremely virtuosic harp playing
Musical discussion between conductor Volker Hartung and Andreas Haas, the
great Cologne flute player. Is it fine
like that?
Olga Pak, our Corean violinist from Novosibirsk, Student in Berlin

The Violist Fuard Ibrahimov plays with Cologne New Philharmonic in order to
learn.
He comes from Aserbeidjan, studies in Cologne- and would
like to become a conductor

Cologne

A few experienced musicians are supporting Mr. Hartung in the training of
the Young.
Alexander Tchernoussov was many years solo bass player with the St.Petersburg
Philharmonic in Russia.
He lives now in Germany, teaches and trains the young musicians of the COLOGNE
NEW PHILHARMONIC to stay in Rhythm...

Georgi Jashvili is one of the greatest talents among our players . He comes
from a famous family of Georgian violinists and was born in Tiflis.
He plays with the Cologne New Philharmonic since a number of years- on his first tour he was only 16 years old!! He studies now in Vienna.
Tome Atanasov, russian oboist from Essen, Germany - he studies at the Folkwang
Academy
...and plays together with Rachel
Bullen, Oboist from Melbourne in Australia, who lives in Cologne
Working with the conductor Volker Hartung means the chance to play in great
concert halls for of an important audience, either as soloist or as member
of the orchestra.
It is an occasion, which is offered by few freelance orchestras.
The young people are encouraged to take use of all their talent which they
have received, to test their academic abilities in real performing situations,
to learn to play together
... and most important, to control their stage fright, from which so many
young artists are suffering.
For them the Cologne New Philharmonic is an ideal playground.
They do not need to do it for free - each musician receives
an average amount of 100 Euros per concert plus free transportation with overnight
stays in
First Class 4-star hotels during the tour.

Sound balance is controlled between soloist and orchestra
Talent means much, hard work even more, ability everything- but one has to be able to use it at the right moment-
this can only achieved by the experience and many, many
performances...

Demanding gestures to the first violins in the Serenade by Peter Tchaikovski:

count barelines... MAKE MUSIC!! SOUND!! ESPRESSIVO!!
